Awards and Lectures

The Stroke Council of the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, is pleased to offer several awards for investigators in stroke-related research.  Selected awardees will present  and be acknowledged at the Stroke Conference.

Willis Lecture
This award was established in honor of Thomas Willis, a prominent physician credited with providing the first detailed description of the brain stem, the cerebellum and the ventricles, with extensive hypotheses about the functions of these brain parts.

The Willis Lecture award is the most prestigious presented in conjunction with the annual International Stroke Conference.  The recipient is a senior investigator who has made outstanding contributions to the stroke field over a sustained period during his or her career.

William M. Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke
This award recognizes contributions to the investigation and management of stroke.  The winner will present a lecture on stroke at the International Stroke Conference.

Robert G. Siekert New Investigator Award in Stroke
In recognition of Dr. Robert G. Siekert, founding chairman of the American Heart Association International Conference on Stroke and Cerebral Circulation, this award encourages new investigators to undertake or continue stroke-related research.  To be eligible, you must submit an abstract.

Mordecai Y.T. Globus New Investigator Award
This award recognizes Dr. Mordecai Y.T. Globus' major contributions to research in cerebrovascular disease, and his outstanding contributions to the elucidation of the role of neurotransmitters in ischemia and trauma; the interactions among multiple neurotransmitters; mechanisms of hypothermic neuroprotection; and the role of oxygen radical mechanisms and nitric oxide in brain injury.  To be eligible for this award, you must submit an abstract.
