Siekert Award

In recognition of Dr. Robert G. Siekert, founding chairman of the American Heart Association’s International Conference on Stroke and Cerebral Circulation, this award encourages new investigators to undertake or continue stroke-related research.

The deadline for abstract submission is Aug. 11, 2008, 5 p.m. CDT.

The deadline for the upload of award application materials is Aug. 18, 2008, 5 p.m. CDT.

Criteria
The applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for this award:

  • All applicants must be members of the AHA/ASA.
  • The candidate must have a doctoral degree.
  • The candidate must have completed postgraduate training and be within five years of first Assistant Professor appointment.
  • The candidate must submit an abstract for the International Stroke Conference 2009 in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting AHA abstracts.
  • An individual may apply for only one award to be presented at the International Stroke Conference 2009.
  • Previous winners for this award are not eligible to re-enter the competition in subsequent years.
  • Only one abstract per candidate will be considered.  The applicant should be the first and presenting author.
  • There is no citizenship requirement for this award.
  • Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

How To Apply / Required Documents

The candidate must submit an abstract to the International Stroke Conference 2009 indicating the abstract is to be considered for the Robert G. Siekert New Investigator Award. The abstract deadline is Aug. 11, 2008, 5 p.m. CDT.  The candidate must upload the following electronic documents per the instructions below no later than Aug. 18, 2008, 5 p.m. CDT:

  • Copy of the abstract submitted to the International Stroke Conference 2009.
  • Extended abstract of up to six double-spaced pages (exclusive of bibliography)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Statement by the senior member of the team on the candidate's role in the research

Nomination materials must be uploaded online via the ISC abstract submitter site no later than Aug. 18, 2008, 5 p.m. CDT. Nominations and/or support letters arriving after this date cannot be considered and hard copies of the materials will not be accepted. 

Award
The award consists of a $1,500 cash award and complimentary conference registration plus airfare and hotel expenses for one night for attendance at the International Stroke Conference 2009.
